Elvis Costello And The Imposters Share New Song Paint The Red Rose Blue

Friday, 10 December 2021 Written by Jon Stickler

Elvis Costello and The Imposters have released a new song, Paint The Red Rose Blue.

Held together by a light keyboard melody and subdued percussion, it's the second track to be lifted from the singer-songwriter's forthcoming LP, 'The Boy Named If', due out on January 14. Costello said:

"The account of someone who has long-courted theatrical darkness, only for its violence and cruelty to become all too real. In its wake, a bereft couple learn to love again, painting a melancholy blue over the red of romance."

The 67-year-old revealed the lead single, Magnificent Hurt, along with details of the record in October. He'll support it with a UK tour next summer, joined by special guest Ian Prowse. Tickets are on sale now.
