Joe Satriani has announced his 19th studio album.

The follow-up to 2020's 'Shapeshifting' is called 'The Elephants Of Mars' and will arrive on April 8, marking his first full-length on earMUSIC.

The news comes with a red-tinted video for the record's lead single, Sahara, a hypnotic track that finds the 65-year-old flexing his skills across an impressive guitar work-out.

Recorded with Satriani's bandmates remotely due to COVID-19 restrictions, the LP was made without the usual time constraints, and challenged the guitarist to create a "new standard" for instrumental records. He said:

"I want to show people that an instrumental guitar album can contain far more creative and entertaining elements than I think people are using right now. We did everything. We tried the craziest ideas. And we entertained every notion we had about turning something backwards, upside down, seeing what could happen."

Satriani is set to embark on a rescheduled UK and European tour this spring.
