Everything Everything have shared details of their ambitious new album.
The follow-up to 2020's 'Re-Animator' is called 'Raw Data Feel' and will arrive on May 20 via the art-rock band's own imprint Infinity Industries/AWAL. It was produced by the group's guitarist Alex Robertshaw and Tom Fuller.
For some of the record's lyrics, song titles and artwork, frontman Jonathan Higgs created an A.I. programme, which he fed with selected pieces of information, including "the entire terms and conditions of LinkedIn, the ancient epic poem Beowulf, 400,000 4Chan forum posts and the teachings of Confucius."
Part of the end result can be heard on lead single Bad Friday, which is fast and poppy, while showing off Higgs' dramatic vocal range. It comes with a video directed by Kit Monteith and Higgs, available below. Higgs commented:
"This song is about being a victim of violence, explaining it away through the gauze of a 'crazy night out'. We wanted the video to have a monochrome Ink Spots classicism to it, disrupted by elements of A.I.-generated imagery. This reflects the approach to writing and producing the song - the minimalistic combined with the surreal and disorientating."
To tie-in with the release, the the four-piece will publish a companion limited edition lyric book called CAPS LOCK ON: Lyrics + Debrid 2007-2022 through Faber Music.
They've also revealed the support acts for their upcoming UK and Ireland tour, which gets underway at the end of March. They'll be joined by Do Nothing, Phoebe Green, Liz Lawrence and L'objectif on select dates. Tickets are on sale.
