Phoenix have announced their seventh studio album.
The follow-up to 2017's 'Ti Amo' is called 'Alpha Zulu' and was recorded at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris during the COVID-19 pandemic. It'll arrive on November 4 via Loyaute/Glassnote Records.
"We felt it would be a fantastic adventure to create something out of nothing in a museum," guitarist-keyboardist Branco Brancowitz commented. "And so with the pandemic, we could live exactly this scene, to be alone in an empty museum."
Guitarist Christian Mazzalai added: "I was a bit afraid, when there was too much beauty around us, that to create something could be a bit hard. But it was the opposite: we couldn’t stop producing music. In these first 10 days, we wrote almost all of the album."
The announcement comes with a new single, Tonight, an upbeat, pop-leaning indie-rock collaboration with Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig. It marks the first track from the French band to feature another vocalist, and arrives with a video directed by Oscar Boyson. The record's title track was released back in June.
Phoenix will play London's O2 Academy Brixton on November 16 as part of a wider European tour. They're currently on the road in the United States.
