Blur have announced a massive London show for summer 2023. Blur tickets go on sale at 10am today.
The Britpop band will reunite for a one-off Wembley Stadium concert on July 8, joined by singer Self Esteem, rapper Slowthai and electro-pop duo Jockstrap.
The gig will mark Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree’s only UK appearance and first headline show since 2015. Albarn said: "We really love playing these songs and thought it’s about time we did it again."
Guitarist Coxon added: "I’m really looking forward to playing with my blur brothers again and revisiting all those great songs… blur live shows are always amazing for me. A nice guitar and an amp turned right up and loads of smiling faces…"
Bassist James commented: "There’s always something really special when the four of us get in a room. It’s nice to think that on 8th July that room will be Wembley Stadium."
Drummer Rowntree said: "After the chaos of the last few years, it’s great to get back out to play some songs together on a summer’s day in London. Hope to see you there."
The band last reunited in 2009, after going on hiatus following their world tour supporting 2003’s ’Think Tank’ LP. Vocalist Albarn has since released three solo albums, his latest being 2021’s ’The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows’. A new record with Gorillaz called ’Cracker Island’ is set to arrive in February.
Coxon has been busy working on his debut album with The Waeve, his collaborative project with The Pipettes member, solo artist and Mark Ronson collaborator Rose Elinor Dougall. The self-titled record is due out on February 3 through Transgressive.
Dave Rowntree recently shared HK, the latest single from his upcoming debut solo LP, ’Radio Songs’, due out on January 20 via Cooking Vinyl.
