Public Image Ltd Competing To Represent Ireland At Eurovision Song Contest 2023

Monday, 09 January 2023 Written by Jon Stickler

Public Image Ltd will compete for the right to represent Ireland at Eurovision 2023.

The legendary post-punk group's frontman John Lydon confirmed the news with a post on social media, putting forward the song Hawaii. The touching, personal ballad was penned by Lydon as a love letter to his wife Nora, who is living with Alzheimer’s.

"It is dedicated to everyone going through tough times on the journey of life, with the person they care for the most," Lydon said in a statement. "It’s also a message of hope that ultimately love conquers all."

The televised heat will take place during Ireland’s The Late Late Show from 9.30pm on February 3. Head here to live stream the performance.

The 67th annual Eurovision Song Contest will take place this May in Liverpool, who beat Glasgow to stage the contest on behalf of Ukraine, after organisers decided it could not be held in the reigning champions' country due to the conflict with Russia.

Ukrainian entrants Kalush Orchestra won the 2022 contest with the track Stefania, while UK singer Sam Ryder finished second in Turin, Italy.

Ryder will take his There's Nothing But Space, Man! Tour across the UK and Ireland this spring. Tickets are on sale now.
