Alynda Segarra has announced a new Hurray For The Riff Raff album.
The follow-up to 2022's 'Life On Earth' is called 'The Past Is Still Alive' and will arrive on February 23 via Nonesuch Records.
Produced by Brad Cook, the record tackles themes of time, memory, love and loss and features a host of collaborators, including vocalists Anjimile, Conor Oberst, and S.G. Goodman.
It was recorded with a backing band comprising Libby Rodenbough, Matt Douglas, Meg Duffy, Mike Mogis, Phil Cook, and Yan Westerlund in Durham, North Carolina, a month after the death of Segarra's father.
Head below to view the Eric Stafford-directed video accompanying the folk and country-influenced lead single and opening track, Alibi, which Segarra has described as, "a plea, a last-ditch effort to get through to someone you already know you're gonna lose."
They continued: "It's a song to myself, to my Father, almost fooling myself because I know what’s done is done. But it feels good to beg. A reckoning with time and memory. The song is exhausted with loving someone so much it hurts. Addiction separates us. With memories of the Lower East Side in the early 2000s of my childhood, mixed with imagery of the endless West that calls to artists and wanderers."
Hurray for the Riff Raff has also announced a North American tour for spring, beginning in New Orleans on February 25 with dates continuing through April 14 in Houston. They'll also play UK and Ireland dates in May.
Tickets for the North American shows go on general sale at 10am local time today (November 10), with the UK and European leg on sale at 10am local time on November 17.
