Villagers Announce New Album 'That Golden Time', Confirm New UK And European Tour Dates

Villagers have announced a new album.
Led by Conor O'Brien, the Irish indie-folk group will release 'That Golden Time' through Domino Recordings on May 10.
The follow-up to 2021's 'Fever Dreams' will feature guest spots from Dónal Lunny on bouzouki and American songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick on violin. It also includes soprano vocals, viola and cello from musicians that O’Brien first saw performing in a tribute to legendary composer Ennio Morricone.
The news comes with a Rok Predin-directed video for the title track, a folky acoustic offering that's led by O'Brien's intimate, plaintive vocal style. He said:
"I wanted the warmth of the record reflected in its title. The song also touches on a theme that keeps cropping up, of romanticism versus realism. How can you have aspirational ideas about yourself and the world around you, whilst being confronted with a harsh, cold reality? The friction interested me."
"For me, 'That Golden Time' has an internalised voice, so much so that I almost found it impossible to let anyone else in," he added about the record. "It’s probably the most vulnerable album I’ve made. I played and recorded everything in my apartment, and finally, towards the end, invited people in."
Villagers have also announced a huge performance at London's Royal Albert Hall for June 8, which will follow dates in Newcastle and Leeds, and a run of shows in Europe. The new gigs will precede their previously scheduled outdoor show at Dublin's Trinity College as part of the Trinity Summer Series.
Tickets for all new concerts go on general sale at 10am local time on January 25. The Irish show is already on sale.
