Christian Lee Hutson has announced a new album.
The California musician will release 'Paradise Pop. 10' on September 27 via ANTI Records. Inspired by his relocation from Los Angeles to New York, it was co-produced by his long-time collaborators Phoebe Bridgers, Marshall Vore and Joseph Lorge, and features guest vocals from Bridgers, Katy Kirby, and Maya Hawke.
"I wanted to make an eyes up record. A looking forward record," Hutson explained. "Sometimes when you live somewhere for a really long time, the place starts to feel like a memory graveyard. Every corner becomes kind of haunted in a way, kind of dragging you out of the present. That’s what LA became like for me.
"Spending so much time revisiting all these emotional landmarks ended up giving me the feeling that I was missing my life. Like it was passing me while I was looking the other way…. It felt really connected to the city. I would spend half my life in the car, just completely on autopilot, re-living my life, from the beginning, on repeat every day."
Alongside the news, the singer-songwriter has shared the record's first single, After Hours, which offers hazy shades of '70s Paul Simon through a blend of acoustic guitar and soft synths from Shahzad Ismaily. Head below to view the accompanying Meg Ha-directed video.
Hutson will support the LP with a UK and European tour in the autumn. Tickets go on sale at 10am local time on Friday (July 12).
