Razorlight have released details of a new album.

'Planet Nowhere' will arrive on October 25 and marks the first LP recorded by the band’s classic line-up of singer Johnny Borrell, guitarist Björn Agren, drummer Andy Burrows and bassist Carl Dalemo since 2008's 'Slipway Fires'.

With an aim of moving on from the group's 2018 'Olympus Sleeping' LP, and a 2022 greatest hits collection, Borrell booked a five-day session with veteran producer Youth at his Space Mountain studio in Spain. Ideas took their time to come together, as Borell recounts, though something worth pursuing emerged from out of nowhere. He said:

"I’d been down in the barranca, and came back up to find the studio empty. So I picked up this weird six-string bass/guitar hybrid I'd never seen before and wrote this thing. On our last night, I started playing it with the guys. The drums came in hard, the bass pounded. It sounded like shit. Absolute shit.

"But Youth was there, saying 'Can, Velvets, see where it takes you’ and 'Why don’t you try it like that?' But still the track just wouldn't budge, locked in its own inertia. Youth says, 'You're getting there, just one more' and almost instantly the song came out, from nothing to something, like a statue coming up out of marble."

The track Borell refers to is the newly shared Scared Of Nothing, a tight and snappy indie-rock offering that resparked their motivation to create more songs during a second session with Youth in Spain earlier in 2024.

Alongside the news, the group have scheduled a series of intimate UK shows for October, with stops lined up in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Brighton and Bristol. Tickets go on general sale at 9am next Friday (August 2).

The short tour will precede their previously scheduled one-off show at London's O2 Academy Brixton on November 21, which will see the band celebrating 20 years of 'Up All Night'. They'll also play previously confirmed shows at Wollaton Hall, as part of the new event series Live At The Hall, and Live From The Yard at Zebedees Yard, Hull in August. Tickets for those dates are already on sale.
