Kele Okereke has released a new single, Hometown Edge.
Leaning more towards the glitchy, electronic edge of the Bloc Party frontman's sonic palette, the track serves as the first preview of a new solo album, due out later this year through KOLA Records/!K7. Inspired by a late-night London adventure, the song marks his first solo release since the 2023 LP 'The Waves Pt. 2'. Okereke explained:
"I realise London has been a constant source of inspiration for me as a songwriter. In my writing it's always been there on the periphery, but it felt right doing something where my love for the city was front and centre. Over the years, life in the capital has shaped who I am and what I am, so it was nice to pay homage to that."
Bloc Party returned in June with a new single called Flirting Again, which preceded the London band's Glastonbury Festival appearance and their biggest show to date at London's Crystal Palace Park. The group put out the 'The High Life' EP in summer 2023, which followed their latest album, 2022's 'Alpha Games'.
