Lacuna Coil Announce 10th Studio Album 'Sleepless Empire', Share New Single Oxygen

Lacuna Coil have announced their long-awaited 10th studio album.
The Italian goth metal giants will drop 'Sleepless Empire' via Century Media on February 14, marking their first full-length release of new material since 2019's 'Black Anima' LP. They also put out 'Live From The Apocalypse' in 2021 and the remix LP 'Comalies XX' in 2022.
To accompany the news, the band have shared Oxygen, a towering, melodic track that centres around powerful choruses, vocal interplay between Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro, and a driving, heavy groove. Scabbia commented:
"Oxygen deals with a moment of emotional difficulty and inner conflict. The lyrics convey a sense of suffocation in a toxic environment, both literally (as you will see in the video) and metaphorically, where every attempt to save oneself, represented by ‘oxygen,’ seems to be in vain. This song encapsulates the struggle to break free from what is somehow holding us back, and shows a path full of obstacles. A raw hymn of vulnerability, resilience and courage in facing even what seems insurmountable."
The accompanying music video, directed by Daniele Tofani and filmed in the Latina province in the Lazio region of their home country, will premiere on YouTube at 5pm BST today (October 2). Scabbia continued:
"Being submerged in water for hours while shooting the video was cathartic for me, I realized that as pleasant as the sensation of floating can be, in a moment it could become dangerous and even deadly if I was not careful. I thought it was a similar feeling to the one in the song."
Oxygen follows a string of previously shared singles from the record: Never Dawn, their collaboration with New Years Day singer Ash Costello, In The Mean Time, and the Randy Blythe-assisted Hosting The Shadow. Check out the LP's full tracklist below.
The band explained: "'Sleepless Empire' captures, through our eyes, the chaos of a generation trapped in a digital world that never stops, where social media consumes identity and every day pushes us one step closer to becoming soulless zombies. We find ourselves in between, having witnessed a full analogic world and the modern one, confronting the evolution and searching for a true meaning of it all. Throughout every song, the journey is an undercurrent of rebellion, a desperate cry to reclaim oneself in an era that seems to have lost its sense of time and reality."
Lacuna Coil will embark on a tour of the UK and Ireland later this month, joined by special guests Blind Channel from Finland. They'll also appear at the 2025 edition of Bloodstock Festival. Tickets are on sale now.
