Sam Fender has unveiled details of his upcoming third album.
'People Watching', the follow-up to 2021's 'Seventeen Going Under', will arrive on February 21 via Polydor. It was produced by the North Shields artist alongside his bandmates Dean Thompson and Joe Atkinson, producer Markus Dravs and The War on Drugs’ Adam Granduciel. In a statement online, Fender said:
"So happy to announce our third album ‘People Watching’ is coming out Feb 21st.
"Me and the band have picked away at these songs for the last couple of years, we recorded so much material in that time and deliberated long and hard over what came next. We settled on this collection for our next outing.
"Special thanks to Dean and Joe who have been with me every step of the way, they are incredible producers in their own right and I’m eternally proud and grateful for them both. The band has really evolved in this time, I’m a lucky fucker to be surrounded by such a talented bunch.
"Photo that features on the album cover is a shot by legendary photographer Tish Murtha. Could literally be me and Dean huddled around the table in my ma’s kitchen as teens. I love it."
The record's title track opener will be the first single and arrives this Friday (November 15). The singer-songwriter explained the inspiration behind the song earlier this week, posting a snippet of the track on Instagram and revealing it's about, "somebody that was like a surrogate mother to me."
In January, the 30-year-old contributed the soulful song Iris to the Jackdaw soundtrack. He also featured on a new version of Noah Kahan's Homesick, a track from the Vermont singer-songwriter's 2022 album 'Stick Season'.
Fender will hit the road this December for the People Watching Tour of the UK and Ireland, with the European leg following in March. £1 from every ticket sold for the UK dates will be donated to the Music Venue Trust in support of grassroots venues. Tickets are on sale now.
