The Kooks Announce First New Album In Three Years 'Never/Know'

The Kooks have announced their first new album in three years.
The Brighton band will release 'Never/Know' through Virgin Music Group on May 9, following up 2022's '10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark'.
Mostly self-produced by frontman and songwriter Luke Pritchard, the record finds the group re-embracing their creative origins, capturing Pritchard and guitarist Hugh Harris' anthemic songwriting qualities from their 2006 debut, 'Inside In / Inside Out', while exploring fresh territory. Pritchard said:
"It’s not about going back to the first album’s sound, but to the roots of our influences and asking, ‘What is the identity of this band?'
"The whole thing was to just forget that the past had happened. What kind of music do we want to make, and how do we make it feel natural?"
Alongside the news, the band have shared the album's opener and title track of sorts, Never Know, a summery, groove-led indie-pop offering that explores themes of a new romance. Pritchard explained:
"It’s a love song about a cute meet with someone unpredictable. I like the idea of it being played in a convertible on a road trip somewhere ridiculous. Because really, you never know."
The Kooks celebrated the album's announcement with an exclusive, intimate indie club night at Notting Hill Arts Club last night (January 30), where they took to the stage to perform mostly new material.
The band will tour Australia and New Zealand in February and March. They'll then play Glasgow's TRNSMT festival in July and the Reading andLeeds festivals in August. Tickets are on sale now.
