BRITs Announce Charli XCX As Recipient Of Songwriter Of The Year Award

Wednesday, 26 February 2025 Written by Jon Stickler

Charli XCX is the recipient of this year's Songwriter Of The Year award from the BRITs.

Decided by a panel of expert judges, the prize recognises exceptional songwriting talent and has previously been awarded to RAYE, Ed Sheeran, and Kid Harpoon.

Damian Christian, Managing Director and President of Promotions at Atlantic Records (part of Warner Music UK) and Chair of the BRIT Committee for 2025, said:

"Charli has had an undeniable year, taking her experimental brand of electronic and pop from underground raves to the heart of mainstream culture. Charli's songwriting is distinctive, bold and relentlessly innovative, and, having been one of the UK's leading songwriters for a number of years now, has taken her craft to new heights with her global phenomenon Brat. I'm delighted she has been recognised for this much deserved award."

The singer is the most nominated artist at this year's BRIT Awards, with nods for Artist Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Dance Act and Pop Act.

In June 2024, she released her sixth studio album, 'Brat', which was followed by a deluxe edition called 'Brat And It's the Same But There's Three More Songs So It's Not' a few days after. Later in the year, she dropped a star-studded remix version, 'Brat and It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat'.

The record won three Grammy Awards earlier this year: Best Dance/Electronic Album, Best Dance Pop Recording for the single Von Dutch, and Best Recording Package.

Charli XCX will embark on another US leg of her Brat Tour in April, which includes appearances at Coachella festival in California. She'll also headline a number of UK and European festivals in the summer, including Manchester's Parklife, London's inaugural LIDO, and Primavera Sound in Porto, Portugal. Tickets are on sale now.

It was announced yesterday that long-time Charli XCX collaborator A. G. Cook has been honoured with the Producer Of The Year award. In December, Myles Smith was named the winner of the Rising Star award, and it was revealed earlier in February that Sabrina Carpenter will receive the Global Success award at the BRIT Awards ceremony later this week.

Carpenter is also nominated in the International Artist Of The Year and International Song Of The Year categories, and will perform at the ceremony at the O2 Arena, London this Saturday (March 1). Other acts set to perform include Smith, Sam Fender, Lola Young, JADE, Teddy Swims and The Last Dinner Party.

Jack Whitehall will return to host the evening, which will also be broadcast live on ITV1 and streaming service ITVX. Head here for more details and a list of nominees.

Last night (February 25), Kasabian and Blossoms took to the stage at London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire as part of the ongoing BRITs Week for War Child series. The remaining acts set to headline intimate shows around the award ceremony include Clean Bandit, Tom Walker, Soft Play, Rag'n'Bone Man, and James Bay.
