Blur Drummer Dave Rowntree Launches Animated Show

Wednesday, 12 April 2006 Written by Stereoboard.com
ImageBlur drummer Dave Rowntree has been working on an animated TV show during his time away from the band.

Rowntree arranged the vocal talent and helped guide the creative direction of the show, Empire Square, and  will premiere on US music channel Fuse TV next Tuesday, April 18th.

Rowntree is a keen animator and like his band colleagues in Blur, he attended art school and owns his own animation studio in London called Nanomation. Blur's ex-guitarist, Graham Coxon, is a well-regarded painter while frontman Damon Albarn fronts animated band Gorillaz.

Image Speaking with Billboard.com about Empire Square, Rowntree said: "I guess being a drummer, you get used to being in the back of the stage. I don't mind being behind the people who are behind the mics."

As we reported earlier this week, Blur will be reforming soon to work on a new album, after band mate Damon Albarn chose to draw the curtains on side-project Gorillaz.
