Despite the name, you don’t get less Emo without being held down and given a technicolour perk-enema. Vampire Weekend are an unusual New York outfit producing African-inspired, indie tunes brimming with sunny, ska-like energy. Click Here to Compare & Buy Vampire Weekend Tickets
Their miss-leading name comes from the name of an amateur film made by lead singer Ezra Koenig. They describe their music as “Upper West Side Sowetto”. Their song, Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, which Rolling Stone voted as one of the best song of the year (well, the 67th best song) is a reference to a fast-paced style of African Soukous music.
Their second album, Contra, is due out on January the 11th. So, in February, the band will be playing an eight date tour of the UK, starting on the 7th in Cambridge. The last time the band were in Britain, their biggest gig got evacuated due to a fire alarm. Better luck this time.
