It has been confirmed that The Strokes will cement their live comeback next year with a headline slot at the ninth Isle of Wight Festival. Other acts who have also been secured on the bill at the event are US rapper Jay-Z, Blondie, Orbital, Squeeze and Pink.

The indie heroes have recently scooped the ‘NME Album of the Decade Award’ for their 2001 award-winning debut “Is this It”. Having honed their skills via important performances at ‘T in the Park’ and, memorably, Reading where they were shifted onto the Main Stage before their debut album had even been released, the band have since been held as festival favourites.

Festival promoter John Giddings says, “Ever since I heard the first Strokes album, I’ve wanted them for the Isle of Wight”. The New York band are currently working on their first record since the 2006 album, “First Impressions of Earth”, which was preceded by their second album “Room on Fire” back in 2003.

Organisers are keen to build as varied a bill as possible with the additional confirmation that American hip-hop star Jay Z, who has surpassed Elvis Presley’s record of number 1 albums in the Billboard 200, headlining the main stage on Friday 11th June. Rock n Roll Hall of Fame royalty, Blondie, will make a guest appearance on the Saturday 12th June, with American pop-rock songstress Pink appearing on the final day, Sunday 13th June.

“Jay Z and Pink are two of the best live acts I have ever seen and the Blondie hits speak for themselves. I can’t wait!” added Giddings.

In addition, Squeeze, famed for hits “Cool for Cats” and “Up the Junction”, will kick-off the weekend-long party in the Big Top on the Thursday night, before the festival officially begins. Recently reformed dance duo Orbital will be taking over the Big Top on Saturday night.

The bash, which sees 55,000 revellers descend on Seaclose Park, takes place between Friday 11th and Sunday 13th June. Tickets are on sale from Friday 4th December and prices are at £150 for one adult pass with camping and £130 for an adult pass without camping.
