The Dropkick Murphys were originally a bunch of friends playing for fun in the basement of a friend’s barbershop. Their aim, they say on their website, “was to blend the musical influences we had grown up with (Punk Rock, Irish Folk, Rock, and Hardcore) into one loud, raucous, chaotic, and often out of tune mix that we could call our own.”
This they did and, to their surprise, everyone loved it, wanted more and pretty soon it snowballed into tours, albums and international success. Listen to their stuff and you’ll enter a world so remorselessly Irish that you might come out the other side with the urge to play Hurling (Irish rugby with sticks.)
Luckily, it’s also a music experience devoted to having as much fun as endurance can handle. The band states their goal as “to play music that creates an all for one, one for all environment where everyone is encouraged to participate, sing along, and hopefully have a good time.”
