Monsters of alternative Rock, Pearl Jam, have signed up as headliners for next summer's Hard Rock Calling event in London's Hyde Park. Pearl Jam fans are doing a merry little Pearl Jam jig.
The Seattle band will play the first night of the three-day event on Friday June 25. The event takes place over the same weekend as Glastonbury Festival, so gives the Glastonbury-disappointed ,and there are many, a chance to get their festival hit.
Back in the day, Pearl Jam was at ground zero of the grunge explosion. They had a bit of a spat with Kurt Cobain and some parts of the music press for being too commercial. They won this debate by pulling such cunning stunts as refusing to make music videos, giving a major ticket vendor the finger and generally committing what appeared to be commercial suicide. It very wasn’t.
So far, only Pearl Jam have been confirmed for the Hard Rock Calling Festival. More bands and support acts are due to be announced in the New Year.
