Rivers Cuomo, singer of American band Weezer, has been taken to hospital following a bus crash. Fans of the band have been left shocked after the group were involved in the accident during the early hours of Sunday morning (6th December) whilst travelling across the United States.
Weezer are one of the most popular American groups of their generation. Returning this year with their release of acclaimed album ‘Raditude’, the band are having a busy time of it crafting yet more sublime geek rock. It could be argued that a lot of their post ‘Pinkerton’ album output hasn’t really been up to the standard of, what I like to think, is their seminal album. However, with new material seemingly pouring out of Rivers Cuomo, the new album is one of the bands best efforts in some time.
The band, who were travelling through New York State near Amsterdam City when the accident occurred, have been widely touring their new album and were travelling from Toronto, Ontario to Boston, Massachusetts for a gig at Boston University. Whilst travelling through it has been reported that the bus hit a patch of ice and careered off the road.
According to a statement from New York State Police Sergeant Brian Dollard, the back wheels of the bus slid on ice, then hit some reflective posts before crossing back over the highway, going over the guardrail and landing in a ditch.
CNN reports that singer Rivers Cuomo was taken to hospital after complaining of rib pain. While another passenger was also given treatment, the singer’s wife, daughter and a fifth passenger were not injured.
Weezer have yet to comment on the incident.
