You wouldn’t think that Rodrigo and Gabriela have their roots in Mexican thrash metal but then Rage for Christmas number one, who’d have thunk that? Not the poor bookies that’s for sure.
The Mexican acoustic guitar ninjas are so skilled on guitar that they can apparently transport you to another place and time, which must make getting home tricky when you have to wait for someone to invent aeroplanes. The duo moved from their native Mexico to Dublin when they became bored with the music scene at home and heard greener pastures were to be found in the Emerald Isle.
This turned out to be a good call as Temple Bar loves some live music, as did Damien Rice who got them to play support on his Oxegen gigs after hearing their fast-fingered goodness. In Ireland, their music gets to number one above big name rock bands. The rest of the world appear to be getting a bit Irish on them too.
