Leicester indie giants, Kasabian have revealed that their new material will be influenced by grunge. With the race to seize the Oasis throne well and truly open, fellow rockers and close friends Kasabian could emerge as possible replacements to the Gallagher brothers and co. after just finishing a massive arena tour.
The success of Kasabian’s third album, ‘West Ryder Pauper Asylum’, has been well celebrated by the Leicestershire lads who were keen to end 2009 in style. Now the band are set to take a short break from the spotlight, they have revealed that their intentions are to return in 2010 with new material.
The band’s singer Tom Meighan told BBC 6Music that a variety of garage and psych groups were the inspiration for ‘West Ryder Pauper Asylum’. When asked about the the current writing sessions, the singer claimed that Pink Floyd and Nirvana are the main influences.
He explained, "Sergio Pizzorno (guitarist) has got a body of songs that are sounding great. It’s nothing like what we’ve done on this record it’s really old school grunge. There’s a lot of Pink Floyd, Dark Side Of The Moon, piano-based songs at the minute."
Going into more detail, the singer explained the band’s plan to return with a quick-fire fourth album in autumn next year. "I think we’ll do it a bit quicker this time," he said. "We took a good three months off last time, because we toured for about four years and that’s the only reason we took that amount of time off, because we toured like crazy."
"I think this time we’ll have a few weeks off or a month off, then we’ll go into the studio and record the new record. Hopefully we won’t wait around so much this time."
In other news concerning Kasabian. The frontman, Meighan, also spoke about the bands possible attendance at Glastonbury next year. He claimed that the band would like to play the festival, but thought that they would have to make way for some “music legends”, being that the festival is celebrating its 40th anniversary. As of yet, Mr Eavis has not made the call.
