To celebrate the 10th year of music and comedy at the Royal Albert Hall, The Teenage Cancer Trust, in association with Nomura, has announced an all-star line up which will see a consecutive ten-night party kick off on Monday 22nd March.
Following on from the sold-out Depeche Mode gig on February 17th, rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures will light the fuse on what looks to be a set of amazing shows. The shows continue on Tuesday 23rd March with a quieter affair, although saying that, a comedy night featuring manic Rhod Gilbert, Jimmy Carr and eccentric Noel Fielding is sure to raise a few roars of laughter.
Moving onto Wednesday March 24th where audiences will be treated to the reformation of brit-pop legends Suede. Performing one night only will make this gig a very special occasion.
For the first time since the Oasis split last year, Noel Gallagher will be performing a two-night run on Thursday March 25th and Friday March 26th. The only shows the song-writing guitarist has planned for 2010.
Saturday March 27th will see Arctic Monkeys play the Royal Albert Hall for the very first time in their careers. Followed by the first ever pop night of the Teenage Cancer Trust, where MOBO winners and multi-Brit nominated JLS will headline on Sunday.
On Monday March 29th, introducing the start of week two of the celebrations will be ska legends The Specials. Performing as part of the Shockwaves NME Awards Big Gig, it has been announced recently that The Specials will be given the Outstanding Contribution award on February 24th at London’s iconic O2 Academy Brixton. In recognition of Teenage Cancer Trust’s link with the British Music Industry and work with young people with cancer, NME has renamed the award the Teenage Cancer Trust Outstanding Contribution.
To wrap up the ten-night spectacular in style, who else but The Who will be giving a performance of Quadrophenia on March 30th. Patron of Teenage Cancer Trust, Roger Daltrey CBE, said when announcing the line up: “When The Who first got together in 2000 to raise money for this brilliant charity, I had no idea we’d achieve so much from these shows. In the last 10 years we’ve raised over £8.7 million, helping Teenage Cancer Trust to open nine more specialist cancer units for young people across the UK.”
“Teenage Cancer Trust has come such a long way since our first gig and I’m extremely proud of this event. I’m forever inspired by the support I have received from the artists and members of the music and comedy industries.” The Who frontman continued.
“This year has been no exception and it’s thanks to them that our 10th anniversary shows are set to break all records for Teenage Cancer Trust.”
