UK electro-pop stars Hot Chip are plotting to launch a new side project with two members of the group working on new material.
Hot Chip are currently enjoying the recognition as one of the most influential dance acts in the UK. Having their finger continuously on the pulse, the band are proving to be hugely successful at merging undergound styles with an element of white boy funk, leaving many of us gasping for breath.
With their return album ‘One Life Stand’ storming the charts, Hot Chip have revealed to ClashMusic magazine that following the album release, they could be set to launch a side project.
Band member Alexis Taylor explained that two members are considering releasing material under something other than Hot Chip. "Al and Felix make songs together but they keep that separate - they haven’t said, ‘I’ve written this song, let’s try it’ - they just leave things up to me and Joe because the band was started by us so we tend to write songs all the time anyway. I think it would be nice if they did want to write in Hot Chip as it would be more inclusive, but at the same time it might lose some of the songwriting identity of the band."
Continuing, the Hot Chip star claimed that the duo have already confirmed a working title for the project. "They were calling themselves Lanark, which is the name of the studio that we record in," he revealed, "but they just said the other day that they’re not going to use that name anymore, so I’m not sure."
This wouldn’t be the first time members of Hot Chip have decided to go their own way with things. Joe Goddard recently released his acclaimed debut album ‘Harvest Festival’ whilst working under the name of Greco Roman Imprint.
