The latest trend of bands revisting their glory days shows no signs of fading as dance punks Primal Scream confirm they will perform their 1991 seminal album ‘Screamadelica’ in its entirety later this year.
Primal Scream could be said as being latecomers to the Acid House party. Their scruffy mixture of punk ethics and 60s pop gained themselves a huge ‘alternative’ audience. However the band always chafed at their ‘indie’ label they were given.
Helmed by Andrew Wetherall’s remix, the producer turned ‘Im Losing More Than I’ll Ever Have’ into the iconic track ‘Loaded’ thus demonstrating how Primal Scream’s music fitted easily into dance culture. With the addition of their love of loud guitars and vintage psychedelia, Primal Scream started to adventure into emerging dance trends and discovered an rebellious band spirit.
With recording sessions becoming one long party, the resulting album ‘Screamadelica’ merged psych, punk, country, house, techno, dub all into one record. The album remains a hugely inspirational classic and one of the finest releases of the 1990s.
Now, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album’s completion, Primal Scream have announced plans to perform their classic offering with a special one off show. Due to take place at London’s Olympia on November 27th the band will play the whole album, which includes hits 'Movin’ On Up' and 'Loaded'. Some of the songs from the album have never been played live before, while many other have not been played for years.
Speaking at the time of the album release, singer Bobby Gillespie said: “We’ve actually made a classic record which people will be able to listen to in 40 years time and it will sound as relevant as it does now". At the halfway stage who can argue that the man is probably right.
Primal Scream will play the following UK show:
Nov 27th Olympia, London
