Rare Led Zeppelin Live Recording Found At Car Boot Sale

A rare recording of a Led Zeppelin concert has been bought at a car boot sale.

Led Zeppelin were one of the most extreme and outrageous rock bands ever to hit the stage. Their live performances would shake the very ground beneath you and leave you with an unforgettable experience. Forming at the dawn of the 1970s, they spent the majority of the decade owning the world.

Touring through massive arenas across the United States, Led Zeppelin played a major part in pioneering heavy metal with a series of outstanding recordings. However, with the exception to concert movie “The Song Remains The Same”, live shows from the band remain frustratingly un-documented, with official releases rarely giving out the real power of the group.

Now a new recording has turned up at a car boot sale which has captured Led Zeppelin at the height of their career. A bootleg of a show at St Matthew’s Baths Hall in Ipswich was purchased for just “two or three pounds”.

Recorded in 1971, the bootleg has captured the band playing material from their first three albums. An intimate performance, the recording is of such good quality it even features between-song chatter from frontman Robert Plant.

Vic Kemp, who bought the recoridng had this to say about his find: "I was going through a stand of CDs at the car boot at Portman Road and the guy who was selling them said 'you might be interested in this'. It must have been recorded by someone standing at the front with a microphone. You can hear Robert Plant talking to the audience quite clearly."

The gig has not been officially documented and amongst the huge amount of Led Zeppelin bootleg recordings out there, it is very hard to find a live recording of good quality. The rare find features the entire concet and contains some of the band’s most stand out tracks such as ‘Immigrant Song’ and a then yet-to-be-released ‘Stairway To Heaven’.

Since the find, there has been no announcement of an official release of the recording.
