Al Green Returns To Play Four Rare UK Shows & Tickets

American soul legend the Reverend Al Green has announced he will be revisiting the UK later this year in June to give four rare arena shows with fellow singer Michael McDonald.

Al Green, the singer and songwriter who brought us such gems as “Let’s Stay Together,” “Tired Of Being Alone,” not mention amazing versions of “Take Me To The River,” and “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart” starts the tour at Birmingham’s LG Arena on 23rd June, he travels to Manchester the next day, then to Bournemouth for 26th June, before finishing in London on 27th June.

With blue-eyed soul singer and songwriter Michael McDonald as company, the former Doobie Brother's distinct husky, soulful baritone range should suit for an exceptional show alongside Al Green.

Considered by many to be the greatest singer alive, Rolling Stone Magazine once wrote: “Al Green’s voice sits at the perfect point between romance and sex.” His endless string of timeless hits from the 1970’s have earned him the title of one of the era’s biggest stars and R&B’s most celebrated innovator.

Now at the age of 63, Al Green’s vocals and his magic are as perfect as ever. Forging a career as unique as his music, he has released over 40 albums so far and sold over 150 million copies. Not to mention being the recipient of eleven Grammy Awards.

It has only been in recent years that Al Green has been tempted back into the world of music. In the mid-1970’s the singer turned his back on the pop world to dedicate his life to God. He was ordained as a pastor and founded his own church in Memphis. But Reverend Green never stopped making music. His gospel albums alone have earned him eight of his Grammy Awards.

Encouraged by the young artists his music inspired, his latest album, 2008’s ‘Lay It Down’ featured guest appearances from contemporary R&B heroes such as The Roots, John Legend and Corrine Bailey Rae.

Al Green will play the following UK dates:

June 2010

23rd LG Arena, Birmingham
24th MEN, Manchester
26th International Centre, Bournemouth
27th The O2 Arena, London

Tickets are available from 9am Friday 26th March.
