‘Like leaves on the ground, but rather snow in the air, swirling and massive, weightless and fragile`... is the most apt metaphor to describe the angelically haunted voice of Harry’s Gym vocalist Anne-Lise Frokedal.
With a liking to Garbage, Mew, Blonde Redhead and The Knife, the Norwegian quartet are “wonderfully soaring, dreamlike prog-pop that's more northern sorrow than Northern Soul – but not too oppressively bleak.” (Guardian, Band Of The Day).
And that’s where we find them on the 3rd May, with the UK release of their debut self-titled album.
Recorded, produced and mixed by the band themselves, in their own professional studio in an abandoned fitness centre (which shares the name of the band, Harrys Gym) along with the help of Serena-Maneesh (4AD) mastermind Emil Nikolaisen, the album emanates an air of psychedelic sorrow and haunted sweetness.
You can catch Harrys Gym on their short upcoming UK tour in May.
