Live UnLtd Launches With £5m Funding To Help Ambitious Young People

Friday, 30 April 2010 Written by Nigel Sachdev

A brand new initiative Live UnLtd, specifically aimed at young people launched this week with £5m of funding from the Big Lottery Fund & the umbrella company UnLtd, to provide a 'Dragon's Den' style platform for those aged 11-25, offering packages of support.

Live UnLtd is launching following UnLtd's (www.unltd.org.uk) success in distributing millions of pounds of funding to individuals for the likes of Sport Relief, Channel 4 and Vodafone, and will create an umbrella for investing in young people around the UK to use music, sport, arts or traditional business to change the world around them for the better.

The Live UnLtd initiative aims to help young people to start up their own businesses, sports teams, recreational groups and host events with funding of up to £2,000 per individual, coupled with a model of non-financial support from a designated development manager in their region.

The project will also create 1,500 positive activities for young people aged 11-25 through a range of clearly defined opportunities which will ultimately see over 20,000 young people benefit from the program, and many more through the creation of a ‘Best Practice Guide’, advising the youth sector, brands and government on how to engage young people in mass.

Live UnLtd will also give young people the opportunity to erase the negative stereotypes associated with ‘youth culture’ in the media today and show that with the right financial and non-financial support, young people can become catalysts for positive social change within their community.

The initiative was officially launched last night, with appearances from Mystery Jets, BBC DJ Nihal, BBC 1xtra's Twin B, Shook 1, and other performances from Jim Screech, The Petebox & Maverick Sabre.

Radio 1's Nihal presented the event, and Peter [Voice of X Factor + E4] Dickson contributed with voiceovers!

Live UnLtd is expected to support over 20,000 young people in the coming years.
