Pete Roe releases 'The Merry-Go-Round' EP through Communion Records on the 7th June 2010 and will tour the UK in support of the release.
Since its inauguration at the beginning of 2010, Communion Records now readies its second EP in the form of another ludicrously talented young British folk artist's debut recordings. It follows the recent success of Aldershot's Matthew and The Atlas, whose 'To The North' EP was released to critical acclaim in April.
Pete Roe, a young songsmith who plied his trade in a hidden pub on the cobbled streets of Bristol, is a regular of the Communion club nights. A regular live pianist to Laura Marling (Pete also appears on Laura's hugely acclaimed 'I Speak Because I Can' LP), and a close ally of Mumford & Sons, Pete traveled out to India with both artists in December 2009 to open their unique tour of the country, and was welcomed to a rapturous response by the attentive locals at each and every city in which they performed.
Now re-located in London, Pete's tender vocal and genteel, storytelling lyricism has already drawn encouraging comparisons to the work of Bert Jansch and John Martyn. This, his debut EP, was recorded completely live and solo with Communion's in-house producer Ian Grimble, and is a warm and evocative introduction to this tender and talented young songwriter.
Communion is the record label and club night run by Mumford & Sons' Ben Lovett and his close ally, Kevin Jones. Alongside resident producer Ian Grimble (Siouxsie & The Banshees/Marc Almond/Manics), Communion was formed from the ashes of the renowned basement folk club at Bosun's Locker on the Kings Road in 2006.
Built on a strong community spirit, Communion has already provided a platform for a broad base of new artists' early live performances. The Sunday sessions at Notting Hill Arts Club have hosted Example, Laura Marling, Alessi's Ark, Noah & The Whale, Anna Calvi and indeed Mumford & Sons alongside countless more.
Communion has already expanded outside its original Notting Hill home, and hosted nights in Brighton, Leeds, Bristol, Dublin and a hugely successful launch in Sydney, Australia this year. The label is an extension of those nights, offering debut releases to the broad range of talent that they present on stage.
