Public Memorial Service Set for Ronnie Dio

After the sad news of metal legend Ronnie Dio’s death on Sunday 16th May, a public memorial service has now been planned in honour of the singer’s life.

Starting out as an unknown, Ronnie Dio was catapulted into the rock spotlight through fronting Ritchie Blackmore’s post Deep Purple band Rainbow. From the success of Rainbow, Dio later went on to be chosen as the replacement for Prince Of Darkness Ozzy Osbourne as the singer of heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath.

Regarded as a metal icon and trademarking the ‘devil’s horn’ salute, the singer toured the world. Being struck down with Cancer only last year, Ronnie Dio fought a brave battle to try and beat the disease and even wrote his memoirs while being treated in hospital.

In sad news announced on Sunday 16th May, the music world heard that Ronnie Dio lost his battle with Cancer. Almost immediately tributes poured in for the metal legend who has been mourned by millions of fans across the planet.

Celebrities who have mourned the singer include Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, who penned a moving personal message to his boyhood hero on the band’s website. Also original Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne paying tribute to the singer as well.

Family of Ronnie Dio, who is set to be buried this week, have confirmed that a public memorial service will be held so that fans will have to opportunity to pay tribute to the singer.

The memorial is set to take place on Sunday 30th May at The Hall Of Liberty in Los Angeles. A Facebook group has been set up detailing the event, with local hotels slashing their accommodation rates for those intending to travel to the service.
