Adam Ant Sectioned Under Mental Health Act

The Dandy Highwayman, Adam Ant has admitted himself into a mental health facility following his behaviour at a comeback concert at a church two weeks ago.

Real name Stuart Goddard, the former singer of 1980’s group Adam and the Ants checked into the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital having been sectioned under the UK Mental Health Act of 1983. The singer, who’s band had chart success with hits such as ‘Stand and Deliver’ and ‘Prince Charming’ suffers from bipolar disorder, and was previously sectioned back in 2003.

According to the Music Fix, Ant is receiving treatment at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and has released a statement to fans. "Ant fans -- please send me postcards at the Chelsea & Westminster hospital, Fulham Road," discouraging fans from coming to the hospital as it “may upset the staff who have been really pleasant."

Ant also said in his statement that he hopes to return later this year. "I am having a well earned rest at Her Majesty's Pleasure and am painting and continuing being an art student," he said. "I have a great view and am considering gigs later in the year."

Adam Ant’s second sectioning comes after not just one incident but several controversial performances by the star. The most talked about being an intimate show at a Christian charity gig in a church in Hampshire on May 10th. The show was also in support of the Ant’s new album ‘Adam Ant is the Bluback Hussar in Marrying the Gunner’s Daughter,’ I’m not being funny, but didn’t his agent pick up on something here? Alarm bells would have been ringing in my ears if one of my clients wanted to release an album called that!

Anyhow, also performing the gig as part of charity work for “starving children in the Philippines, according to local newspaper the Portsmouth News, the singer stormed off stage just after telling the audience to “f—k off”.

The event ended early after Ant began singing the Rolling Stones’ ‘Sympathy for the Devil’ (this is at a Christian charity gig remember), which resulted in a large amount of jeering from the 200-capacity audience. Contact Music reported that Adam Ant spoke out to the crowd saying, "I'm a punk rocker. I don't do Christian. You can f--- off to the church," before leaving the stage.

Following the incident Ant made another dodgy comment to the locals via the Portsmouth News, probably fuelling the fire he started even further. He said, "I came here to see (British warships) Victory and Warrior because I'm proud to be English, I didn't come here for this. I won't talk to any locals any more because they are all gangsters."
