One of the biggest bands on the planet, U2, have had to cancel some shows, including Glastonbury, on their biggest tour in over a decade.
Currently rolling through their most lavish tour in a decade, U2 are playing some of the biggest stadiums on the planet, performing a mix of their classic hits and their more modern material from underneath a gigantic claw shaped stage.
Now playing through the North American leg of the tour, the band’s gig schedule has been thrown into chaos with singer Bono undergoing emergency back surgery. Now recovering from the operation, the frontman is said to be laying-low from the treatment.
U2 manager Paul McGuinness broke the news to fans via a statement issued through the band’s official website, "The band were really looking forward to getting back on the road until the emergency surgery on Bono's back which took place in Munich today. We were due to start rehearsals on Tuesday in Salt Lake City and get the show ready for the next leg, and there were going to be some changes and some new material. It's unfortunate that we're inconveniencing fans - we will make plans to reinstate these dates as soon as possible."
Upon completion of their North American tour U2 head to the UK, having already confirmed to play at this summer’s Glastonbury festival. These plans have now had to be scrapped with Bono calling Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis earlier today to break the bad news.
