LIVE: Slash - Download Festival 2010, Donington - 13th June 2010

‘I can’t believe I’m seeing Slash play live today’. Words I can remember saying to a mate while trying to distract my mind from what horrors lay beyond the queue for the mud-splashed festival chemical bog. Come to think of it, I hope that was mud.

Speaking to a lot of people prior to the performance, Slash, armed with his fresh new material from his recently released debut solo album, was a hugely anticipated act for Download revelers.

Despite an early-ish slot on the main stage, it didn’t stop the army of rock fans from braving the baking afternoon sunshine to see the former Guns N’ Roses legend showcase his new album.

We were in for one hell of a treat too! Not only did we get some of the icon’s own solo music, we also had a choice selection of Guns N’ Roses material as well! Playing tracks such as Sweet Child O Mine, Rocket Queen and Nightrain Slash lapped up the praise from thousands of fans assembled to see the legend play.

With vocals throughout the set coming from Alter Bridge’s lead singer and rhythm guitarist Myles Kennedy, Slash and backing band powered through a killer set as well as wowing the crowds by playing the riff from Guns N Roses killer track Paradise City behind his head.

Decked out in usual attire, top-hat, leathers, shades, jeans and cowboy boots, Slash – real name Saul Hudson – unleashes a jaw-dropping announcement towards the end of his set. This bit really is incredible!

‘I’d like you to welcome onto the stage a good friend of mine’, the guitarist shouts. Greeted by thunderous applause and cheers, legend of rock, the one the only Lemmy Kilmister struts onto stage followed by chants of his name.

Even though its only 3.40pm, Lemmy responds with ‘Good Evening’ and with ever-present Rickenbacker bass cocked, locked and ready to rock, the pair jam through a rendition of ‘Doctor Alibi’. Absolutely sensational!!

Kennedy shouts out, "You have been the best fucking audience I've ever seen in my life," and comments that Slash had played Sweet Child O Mine at Donington 22 years ago. Announcing to the crowd that Slash was the world’s greatest ever guitarist ever, Slash responds with “I paid him to say that” and the curtain closes to Velvet Revolver track ‘Slither’.

Slash played the following tracks:

1. 'Ghost'
2. 'Back From Cali'
3. 'Nightrain'
4. 'Rocket Queen'
5. 'Starlight'
6. 'By The Sword'
7. 'Sweet Child o' Mine'
8. 'Doctor Alibi'
9. 'Slither'
