Thousands Pay Tribute At Stuart Cable's Funeral

Thousands of fans of late welsh rock drummer Stuart Cable have lined the streets of Aberdare to pay tribute to the star prior to his funeral.

Roads were closed with fans from all over making their way to small South Wales town Aberdare to pay their last respect’s to the former Stereophonics drummer who’s funeral took place yesterday on Monday 21st June.

Lining the streets leading to St Elvan’s Church, fans applauded as Cable’s coffin was taken upon a horse-drawn carriage to the church. Among mourners were the members of Stuart Cable’s previous band Stereophonics as well as Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon, filmstar Rhys Ifans, welsh rugby icon Max Boyce and the boys from MTV show ‘Dirty Sanchez’.

As stereoboard previously reported, Stuart Cable sadly died at his home, aged 40 on June 7th. Despite being fired from welsh band Stereophonics in 2003, the drummer went on to launch a hugely successful media career in broadcasting as well as form his new band Killing For Company.

The church service began with Welsh Hymn ‘Calon Lan’ and was broadcast by loudspeaker to mourners outside the church. Following the hymn came several rocks songs played by one of Cable’s favourite bands High Voltage, AC/DC’s Let There Be Rock blasted out before the drummer’s long-time friend and former neighbour Gwyn Davies paid tribute.

"I would like to say that he was my best friend but he was many people's best friend. People are not here today because of his celebrity they are here because they want to say goodbye to a nice, normal bloke."

Stuart’s older brother Paul concluded the service with a request for the church bells to ring out, finishing with, “My brother had a bell in every tooth and he is going out with eight bells ringing like the clappers”.

The coffin was carried out of the church and placed into the motorised hearse to the sound of High Voltage playing AC/DC’s classic track Back in Black. As mourners filed out of the church, among them Kelly Jones said, "No one else could get a send-off like that. It's hard to walk out crying when they are playing Back in Black.”

Up to 30 leather-clad bikers riding with the Valley Commandos gang, a gang whom Cable used to regularly ride with, were due to escort the hearse over Stuart Cable’s final route to Llwydcoed Crematorium for a private service.

The cause of the star’s death is still waiting the outcome of toxicology tests.
