Paul Merton is a British writer, actor, comedian, radio and television presenter from London.

Ranked by critics, fellow comedians and viewers to be among Britain's greatest comedians, Merton's style fits into the deadpan, surreal and sometimes darkly comic genres, and is known also for his observational humour.

He is well known for his regular appearances as a team captain on the BBC panel game Have I Got News for You, and as the former host of Room 101, as well as for several appearances on the original British version of the improvisational comedy television show Whose Line Is It Anyway? He regularly appears as a panellist on Radio 4's Just a Minute, and has also appeared as one of the Comedy Store's Comedy Store Players.

Awards-wise, Merton has achieved multiple BAFTA nominations, eventually winning Best Entertainment Performance in 2003.

Merton's appearances on Have I Got News for You have seen him nominated for five British Comedy Awards, including Top TV Comedy Personality in 1992 and Best Comedy Entertainment Personality in 1999, as well as a variety of other accolades.
