Soundgarden was an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1984 by singer and rhythm guitarist Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Matt Cameron became the band's full-time drummer in 1986, while bassist Ben Shepherd became a permanent replacement for Yamamoto in 1990.
Soundgarden were originally the first grunge band to sign to a major label, and were well known for their huge 1994 hit 'Black Hole Sun'. They were the blueprint for many of today's grunge, metal and alternative-rock bands. As of 2012 Soundgarden had sold over an estimated 22.5million albums worldwide! After a breakup in 1997, Cornell pursued other projects - such as Audioslave - until 13 years later, it was revealed that they’d be getting back together. With their sixth studio album - and first since 1996 - ‘King Animal’. Following Cornell's suicide in 2017 and a year of uncertainty of the band's future, Thayil declared in an October 2018 interview with Seattle Times that they would not continue as Soundgarden. Soundgarden has been and will always be my most fave band forever and ever... having loved them since the 90's, I finally was able to see them perform live after waiting over 20 years. I didn't want that show to ever end! Rock on guys and thank you for the show!
