William Basinski is American an ambient composer and classically trained clarinetist from New York.
Having studied jazz saxophone and composition, he begun to develop his own minimalist sound, using tape loops and old reel-to-reel tapedecks, where he short looped melodies and played them against themselves creating feedback loops. His released ‘Shortwavemusic’ in 1998, which was followed by Watermusic in 2000, but he is perhaps best known for his four volume album ‘The Disintegration Loops’ which came out in 2002 and 2003. His last release was 2015’s ‘Cascade’ and he is set to showcase his new work ‘Shadow In Time’ in February. William Basinski is set to play a show at London’s Union Chapel in February.
