McKellen's career spans genres ranging from Shakespearean and modern theatre to popular fantasy and science fiction. He is perhaps best known for his roles as Gandalf in Lord of the Rings and Magneto in X-Men, but his list of credits spans widely across film and television, including roles in Priest Of Love, Six Degrees of Separation, And The Band Played On, Richard III, Apt Pupil, Gods and Monsters, Emile, the Da Vinci Code, Doctor Who and even a brief stint in Coronation Street!
