Robbie Williams and James Blunt will headline the bill of a Help for Heroes Concert taking place at Twickenham Stadium, the home of England RFU, this September - the biggest charity event of its kind since 2007's Live Earth concert.
The incredible line up of stars will come together on September 12th 2010 for the biggest event of the year and a landmark in the history of entertainment, to mark the nation's appreciation of its military heroes.
In honour of the service and sacrifice made by men and women for their country, risking everything in the line of duty, some of the biggest names in entertainment are proudly coming together in aid of Britain's war wounded.
Musicians and comedians are joining forces for the spectacular event that will be broadcast on BBC One.
Robbie Williams, who this year celebrates 20 years in music, will headline the show which also features a cross section of the biggest musical names including James Blunt, Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, Plan B and The Saturdays. Other acts rumoured to be in talks include Gary Barlow, JLS, Kasabian and Stereophonics, more acts will be announced over the coming weeks.
The show will be hosted by the cream of the UK's comedy talent - John Bishop, Kevin Bridges, Jack Dee, Jason Manford and Michael McIntyre have all pledged their support. There will also be a special guest appearance from the legendary TV presenter Bruce Forsyth.
Of course, all performers have donated their services free of charge.
Help for Heroes has united the nation behind the Armed Forces. The charity does not question the rights and wrongs of recent wars, just strives towards providing the best possible care and support for those wounded in the service of our country.
This is not only a fundraising concert, but a statement of appreciation from the UK 's entertainment community to our brave young service men and women.
60,000 fans and troops will be at Twickenham Stadium for the show.
The guests of honour will include 150 injured service personnel and their carers who will receive free tickets as a small 'thank you' for the sacrifices they have made.
Bryn Parry, CEO of Help for Heroes said "Help for Heroes is all about ordinary people doing their bit to support the men and women of our Armed Forces. We feel helpless when we hear about our young men and women being wounded and want to do what we can; with Help for Heroes we can make a difference. Over the last three years, hundreds of thousands have joined us in doing their bit and millions have been raised to improve the quality of life for some wonderfully brave people."
He added, "This concert is a fantastic example of a nation doing its bit for 'the blokes';I am particularly grateful to all the acts and the organisers for their support and to Hesco Bastion, our lead sponsor. Music and humour can reach and lift those in the darkest of places, making life worth living and helping in recovery. Our boys and girls, both those operating in the remote patrol bases and those recovering from life changing injuries, will hear this concert and know that they are in the forefront of our minds. They are not forgotten, wherever they are."
Headliner Robbie Williams said, “I am honoured to be a part of this show and to help draw attention to the amazing job done by our servicemen and women throughout the world. Their dedication to our country is phenomenal and we are all so proud of them”.
