Mark Chapman, the man who killed former Beatle John Lennon, has been denied his sixth attempt to gain parole. The killer will now have to wait until at least August 2012 before he can re-apply for release.
Chapman, 55, who murdered John Lennon in New York in 1980 underwent a video-link interview by the New York state parole board whose members acknowledged Chapman's clean prison record but denied parole due to the murderer's “premeditated senseless and selfish act of tragic consequence.”
John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono has always argued against the release of Chapman, considering him to be a threat to her and Lennon's two sons, Julian and Sean. Lawyer Peter Shukat revealed that Lennon's widow Yoko was “very pleased” to hear that Chapman was to remain incarcerated.
Next Month John Lennon would have turned 70 years old and Yoko Ono is currently busy supporting a variety of events marking the ex-Beatle's 70th birthday. To commemorate the occasion new editions of Lennon's solo albums are to be released and a set of John Lennon time capsules are to be created. Yoko Ono recently visited Liverpool to visit Lennon's childhood home and open a children's centre.
John Lennon would have celebrated his 70th birthday on October 9th.
