Blur Looking To Release New Album Next Year

Britpop legends Blur are set to reunite once again to record new material next year. According to several British newspapers, the band have booked studio time for this January and are looking at the possibility of collecting the recordings into a full release by the end of next year.

A source (supposedly) close to the band told The Sun: “There's no concrete plans regarding what they will do with the material, but if they're all agreed it could become the first full Blur album to feature all four members in over a decade.”

The source continued: "When they went into the studio earlier this year everyone was really pleased to discover that the old magic was still there. They would have liked to have done more, but Damon could not take part due to his commitments with Gorillaz. Now that he's finished touring with the band he has more time on his hands."

Despite the tenuous authority of the source, Albarn recently announced that he plans to put his side-project Gorillaz on the back burner, and may not tour with the band on such a large scale again. He said: “It's been an unqualified success – bizarrely. But as far as communicating an idea to an audience, who knows? We always think that when we get to a point where we've achieved something that it's time to stop.”

Meanwhile, Gorillaz are planning to release a free EP on Christmas day. Entitled ‘The Fall’, the album was recorded by Albarn on his iPad while touring with the band earlier this year. The album will be available to download for free from Christmas morning onwards.
