Doves Announce Sixth Studio Album 'Constellations For The Lonely' With New Single Renegade

Monday, 04 November 2024 Written by Jon Stickler

Doves have returned with a new single and details of their sixth studio album.

'Constellations For The Lonely', the long-awaited follow-up to 2020's 'The Universal Want', will arrive on February 14 via EMI North.

The 10-track project was written, recorded and produced by the Manchester trio in several locations in Greater Manchester, North Wales and Cheshire, with additional production from their long-time collaborator Dan Austin.

To coincide with the news, Jimi Goodwin and twins Jez and Andy Williams have shared the record's brooding first single, Renegade, which offers a return to their signature brand of melancholy, with Goodwin’s plaintive vocals treated with reverb and echo.

The song was the first penned for the album, and the last track written at the band's Frank Bough Sound III studio. Drummer, co-vocalist and co-songwriter Andy said:

"Looking at everyone’s lives over recent years, and considering the news at the moment, Renegade feels a lot more loaded in retrospect. We wanted to go for a dystopian feel, thinking about Manchester itself over the next century or so. A totally imaginary thing… ‘Blade Runner’ set in our home city."

'Constellations For The Lonely' tracklist:

1. Renegade
2. Cold Dreaming
3. In The Butterfly House
4. Strange Weather
5. A Drop In The Ocean
6. Last Year’s Man
7. Stupid Schemes
8. Saint Teresa
9. Orlando
10. Southern Bell
