Bruno Mars Covers ‘California Gurls’ For BBC Radio

Saturday, 22 January 2011 Written by James Conlon

American singer/songwriter Bruno Mars dropped into the BBC Studios this week to record a unique cover version of Katy Perry’s summer anthem, ‘California Gurls’. The ‘Grenade’ star put his own unique twist on the song, performing a relaxed number including vocal harmonies courtesy of his ‘Smeezington’ songwriting partners.

Mars showed his talents in the studio, blasting out a powerful vocal performance and even managing to seamlessly drift into the Beach Boys’ classic ‘California Girls’.You can view Bruno Mars’s rendition of ‘California Gurls’ below:

Meanwhile, the singer (who is currently sitting on top of the UK singles chart) was the latest in a string of artists to be added to the 2011 Grammy Awards line-up. Organisers of the prestigious event announced this week that Mars, Muse and Justin Beiber will all be performing at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony. They will join the likes of Lady Gaga, Eminem, Arcade Fire and Katy Perry, who have all been confirmed for the ceremony on February 13th.

Through his roles as singer and as songwriter, Bruno Mars is linked to a total of six nominations at the event including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Male Vocal Performance and Producer of the Year.
