Rising star Jessie J reached Number One in the UK Singles Chart last night (February 6th) with her second single, ‘Price Tag’.
The singer has seen a surge of public attention after winning the BBC Sound of 2011 poll earlier this year. She was also named as the Brits Critics’ Choice Award winner last month, a title which she will collect at the ceremony next week (February 15th). The singer held off competition from Bruno Mars, who slipped to Number Two with his passionate anthem ‘Grenade’.
Jessie J also saw a resurgent climb for her 2010 single ‘Do It Like A Dude’, which reached Number Seven in this week’s chart. The song had previously peaked at Number Two when it was initially released.
The other new entries in the top ten were Taio Cruz (feat. Kylie MInogue and Travie McCoy) at Number Eight with ‘Higher’ and Enrique Inglesias at Number Five with ‘Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You)’.
In the UK Albums Chart Adele reigned as Number One for the second week with her recent hit album ‘21’. Her debut ‘19’ also climbed one place to earn the Number Four spot, 99 weeks after its initial release.
Two new entries came in the form of Chase & Status, who earned a Number Two with their sophomore effort ‘No More Idols’ and Eva Cassidy’s ‘Simply Eva’, which entered the chart at Number Six.
