Jamiroquai - Lifeline (Single Review)

As the third single from Jamiroquai’s seventh studio album ‘Rock Dust Light Star’, ‘Lifeline’ comes as the latest instalment of their acid jazz sound. Immediately you can identify it as one of their tracks without advanced warning, yet it’s a fresh, new sound.

The band slot into varying genres such as jazz funk, acid jazz, and funk just to name a few – all seemingly very similar but offering that diversity they have within these genres. This track is heavily funk influenced and, for someone who hasn’t listened to Jamiroquai in quite a few years, it is something I find nicely catchy.

ImageWith a somewhat uplifting, positive vibe this track is a smooth, easy listen and definitely something people can get behind. Today it’s hard to find many mainstream tracks with wide jazz influence, but this certainly ticks that box, giving it a more modern twist in the process.

In the midst of a pop takeover in the charts today, it’s nice to see recognised artists sticking to their guns and doing something a little different. Their style is undeniably identifiable and this is a highly recommendable track.

‘Lifeline’ is undoubtedly a track that has caught my attention and brought me back to Jamiroquai. Next year will make it 20 years together and quite frankly, if they keep producing tracks this likeable then I can only imagine those future years will just keep adding up.
