American singer-songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield is set to release a brand new album, out on February 28th.
‘Tell Me’ is currently available to pre-order at www.JessicaLeaMayfield.com, where the first 250 CD or vinyl copies include an exclusive signed 7” of the album’s first single, ‘Our Hearts Are Wrong’. The B-side is a live version of the With Blasphemy So Heartfelt song ‘Kiss Me Again.’ The single is also available for free download at jessicaleamayfield.com.
Produced by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, the album follows Mayfield’s acclaimed 2008 release, With Blasphemy So Heartfelt, which debuted in the CMJ Top 200 and in the top 50 on the Indie Albums chart. Of the album, the Seattle Weekly said, ‘Her languorous, understated, and often dark sound can best be described as Hope Sandoval meets Jim James meets Neko Case,’ while the Sunday Times wrote,‘A set of songs that strips pretty much everything back to basics: a keening voice, lyrics that move from rapture to doubt and defeat, acoustic and pedal-steel guitar, funereal percussion, bare-bones country-blues colours. An extraordinary debut from an extraordinary artist.’
Since the release of With Blasphemy So Heartfelt in 2008, Mayfield has toured alongside numerous renowned artists, including The Avett Brothers, Ray LaMontagne, Band of Horses and The Black Keys. In advance of the release, Mayfield will tour throughout this winter, including US dates with Jay Farrar and Justin Townes Earle. Additional international dates will be announced shortly.
Mayfield first came to the label’s attention when she sang backing vocals on The Black Keys’ 2008 Nonesuch album, Attack & Release. Her performance on the track ‘Things Ain’t Like They Used To Be’ made the then 17-year old the first guest vocalist to appear on any record released by the acclaimed duo. In addition to producing, Auerbach also engineered Tell Me and provided backing vocals as well as guitar and drum loops.
