Mike Starr, the original bassist of Alice in Chains, was tragically found dead yesterday aged 44.
Police found Starr’s dead body at an unknown home in Salt Lake City, along with many illegal substances including drugs like Xanax and Opana, leaving the most likely cause of death as an overdose – although the official cause is at the moment unknown.
Starr’s father described his death as “a terrible shock and a tragedy”. His death comes just nine years after the band’s original vocalist died of a heroin and cocaine overdose.
Starr has previously had many battles with drug use and addiction – just last February the rockstar was arrested due to possession of a controlled substance. He also starred in VH1’s Celebrity Rehab, in which he battled a heroin addiction. Starr has spoken previously about how his constant drug use was the main factor in his departure from Alice in Chains.
Police were called to the scene after reports of a possible death in the home – and confirmed the star’s death at 1.42pm yesterday. The officers at the scene stated “There is nothing to indicate that this was foul play by another individual.”
