The Darkness have reportedly began planning a 2011 return to the music scene, after a website appeared with the words ‘As Promised’.
The website also links to the official Darkness facebook page, an email subscription page and a twitter posting button.
At first, the website appeared as though it could be another speculative hoax, but website Spinner.com has found that the website could in fact be real, sparking hope in Darkness fans worldwide.
The theory is that the website’s domain name, actualdarkness.com, was purchased by Mythophonic, the Darkness’ managing company, on February 18th. Hopes were further fuelled by the fact that singer Justin Hawkins follows a twitter account called @darknessactual, which itself follows Mythophonic.
Hawkins’ recently tweeted "It's frustrating for me too!" – suggesting that he may be holding in the news of a reunion from fans until he’s allowed to reveal the secret. There is also a fan-made Darkness reunion video currently circulating the web, which has been mistaken for official by many around the world.
But, the vocalist did also post the following tweet last year, denying any chance of a Darkness come back: “Was startled to read that I've been spending time with a small child that I didn't know existed! Congrats Ed, I think. Whoever paid this 'source' should really ask for their money back, because what they have bought is essentially horse shit. If there was any truth in the Darkness reunion rumour then it wouldn't be a rumour."
If the Darkness are to reunite this year, they would be best off doing it before the summer festival period in order to secure some potential headlining spots – but at the moment this is wishful thinking. Keep up-to-date on the Darkness on Stereoboard.
